Anguilla Caribbean Island
The Anguilla Caribbean island is still a beautiful, laid back place, the way all of the Caribbean used to be.
Anguilla is the most northerly of the Leeward Islands of the British West Indies and retains the laid-back, slow pace that first attracted travelers to the Caribbean.
The island is just 16 miles long, located five miles north of St. Martin, but has some the best beaches in the Caribbean, including Mead's Bay, named one of the 10 best beaches by Outside magazine. The island is lightly populated and with 33 public beaches, so crowds are never a problem. Much of the island's waters are also maritime parks, attracting snorkelers to the dramatic coral reefs and divers to numerous wrecks, including a Spanish galleon that sank in the 1770s.
After coming relatively late to tourism, Anguilla has quickly made a reputation for having some of the best dining in the Caribbean. Restaurants like Blanchard's, Zurra’s, Cap Jaluca and the resort at Cuisinart are regularly featured in national travel magazines. Straw Hat, an island favorite run by American ex-pats, is within walking distance or a quick drive from L'Embellie.
Luxury spa treatments are also offered at the island’s resorts, as are bike and water sport rentals.
Getting here is easy with same day plane connections available from San Juan, Puerto Rico and St. Martin. A twenty minute ferry also runs from St. Martin. As part of the British West Indies, a passport is required.
